This stands for Specific Vocational Preparation. Many other states/workforce areas' policies use SVP codes to determine the length of the OJTs and apprenticeships. Area 7 doesn't yet have an OJT policy…
Go to http://online.onetcenter.org/find/ and type in the keyword or ONet code. Under the descriptors, it lists the SVP range (i.e. truck driver is SVP 4-6, meaning it could be anywhere from 3 months to 2 years).
Here is the basic table, based on the educational requirements of the job (use the SVP range from O*Net to find the corresponding SVP level):
1. Vocational education (high school commercial or shop training, technical school, art
school, and that part of college training which is organized around a specific vocational
objective),
2. Apprentice training (for apprentice jobs),
3. In-plant training (given by an employer in the form of organized classroom study),
4. On-the-job training (functioning as learner or trainee on the job under the instruction of
a qualified worker),
5. Essential experience in jobs (serving in less responsible jobs which lead to the higher
grade job or serving in other jobs that qualify).
